Access To Patient Records
General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) are incorporated into British law and are referred to as the Data Protection Act 2018.
Requests for information under this Act must:
- Be in writing to the office manager. Verbal requests can be accepted where the individual is unable to put the request in writing but this must be noted on the patient record.
- Be accompanied with sufficient proof of identity to satisfy the data controller and to enable them to locate the correct information. If requests are made on behalf of another, the data controller must satisfy themselves that correct and adequate consent has been given.
- Be accompanied with the correct fee where applicable. Please ask reception for details.
Our practice offers the facility to view areas of your medical records online. The areas patients are able to access includes a summary of information relating to medications, allergies and adverse reactions, this is called a summary care record. Access is already enabled to those patients signed up to our online services. In addition to this, patients can request access to their detailed coded record via our online services.
