For all routine appointments with our Doctors, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses and Health Care Assistants you will be offered the next available appointment within the next 4 weeks.
If you would like to speak to your “usual GP” but feel that you do not need to see them in person, please ask to book a telephone consultation, and you will be offered an AM or PM time slot with your usual GP.

Emergency (Triage) Appointments:
If you have a medical emergency that needs to be dealt with on the same day, the receptionist will ask you for a brief outline of your problem and add your details to the telephone Triage Clinic. (Please remember all of our receptionists are fully trained and subject to medical confidentiality).This information is given to the GP who will initially contact you by telephone in order to prioritise your need to be seen in the Surgery on the day. All triage requests must be made by 11am.
Please ensure you are available to take the call and that you have given the correct telephone number to the receptionist.

It is important that you let us know if you need to cancel your appointment so that it can be booked by another patient. You can cancel via telephone, online or in person.
NB: Please note patients who repeatedly miss their appointments and do not let us know that they will not be attending, may be removed from our practice list.

Grove Surgery are able to offer telephone appointments and Saturday and evening routine GP appointments on a rotational basis. These are for pre-booked appointments only.
The receptionist is unable to deal with any other queries during the Saturday and evening clinics and our incoming phone lines are not in use during these times.
Please note: If you need to cancel an appointment that is booked for a Saturday, please ensure this is done during weekday opening hours or via our online bookings system here. You will need to be registered with a unique username and password to use this service. Pop into the Surgery during opening times to register for our Online Services.
If you are unable to get to the Surgery and would like to request a home visit, please try to telephone us on (01842) 752285 before 10.30 am. The GP may phone you to assess your problem before visiting.
Please do let us know if you cannot make your Doctor or Nurses appointment. Appointments can be cancelled via the telephone or via our online services, if you have registered for a username and password.
If you have a mobile telephone number then you will receive a text reminder of your forthcoming appointment. If we do not have your latest contact details, then please let us know.
Failure to Attend Pre-Booked Appointments
Due to an increase in the number of wasted appointments through patients failing to attend appointments without informing the surgery, it has become necessary to introduce the following policy:
If a patient fails to attend a pre-booked appointment on more than 3 occasions in the last year, a warning letter will be sent to the patient, advising them that a further occurrence could risk removal from the Practice.
Warning letters are valid for a period of 12 months. Removal based on warnings greater than 12 months old will be invalid – in this case a further formal warning and period of grace will be required.
If the patient fails to attend another appointment, the matter will be discussed at a Practice meeting and a majority agreement will be reached as to whether the patient will be removed from the Practice list. Following agreement, the Practice Manager will write to the patient and explain the reasons for their removal from the Practice List.
Results of blood tests, x-ray results and correspondence are received by post in the morning. We would appreciate it if you would telephone (01842) 752285 for these results in the afternoon after 2.00pm.
Your doctor will advise you when to telephone for these. Cervical smear results take approximately 1- 2 weeks to come back. The Health Authority will inform you of the cervical smear result by letter.
If you have been advised to have tests carried out by other NHS organisations; for example West Suffolk Hospital or Addenbrookes, then you must contact those direct for your results.

The NHS can provide free, non-emergency transport to certain patients who are eligible, i.e. there must be a real medical need and/or severe mobility issues.

If you are not eligible for the above NHS transport, there is also a Voluntary Service, providing hospital transport whereby the patient pays for the mileage costs. Screening Programmes not run by the Surgery:
Screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA)
The risk of dying from a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is greatest in men aged over 65. This is why the NHS AAA Screening Programme offers screening to men aged 65 and over.
Men are invited for screening during the year they turn 65 (April 1 to March 31). This means you’ll either be invited when you’re 64 or just after your 65th birthday.
If you’re registered with a GP, you will receive a letter from the NHS AAA Screening Programme inviting you for an appointment at the Healthy Living Centre. If you don’t respond to this first invitation, you will be sent a second invitation within six weeks.
Men over 65 who haven’t already been screened can request a scan by contacting their local AAA screening service directly.

Screening for bowel cancer
Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK. If it's detected at an early stage, before symptoms appear, it's easier to treat and there's a better chance of surviving it. To detect cases of bowel cancer sooner, the NHS offers two types of bowel cancer screening to adults registered with a GP in England:
NHS breast screening programme
The NHS Breast Screening Programme provides free breast screening every three years for all women aged 50 to 70 years.
Because the programme is a rolling one which invites women from GP practices in turn, not every woman receives an invitation as soon as she is 50. But she will receive her first invitation before her 53rd birthday. Once women reach the upper age limit for routine invitations for breast screening, they are encouraged to make their own appointment. This can be arranged by telephoning the West Suffolk Hospital Breast Screening department.

Your needs are at the heart of this service and the priority is to help you remain independent in your own home. NFS can provide assistance with short or long term needs, onward referral, advice and information to help you choose the right help or service for you.
This service provides intensive support in your own home for up to six weeks. If, for example, you have been in hospital and need support when you return home, NFS is there to help you regain as much independence as possible.
After an initial assessment of your needs, NFS team will work with you to develop a personal plan designed to help you regain the skills and confidence to remain independent in your own home.

Norfolk Swift Response
This 24 hour service provides help, support and reassurance if you have an urgent unplanned need at home but don’t need the emergency service.
If for example, your partner or carer is suddenly admitted to hospital, the Swift Response team can assist you with getting up, washing and dressing. Or if you have a fall but are not seriously injured, the team can bring special lifting equipment to help make moving as safe as possible for you.
